Healthy Living

  • Health counseling, cooking classes, coaching with Diane Kolack
  • The Secret is an amazing film of self-empowerment
  • Curious about cohousing?
  • A click a day at the Breast Cancer Site funds free mammograms
  • American Association for Nude Recreation
  • 205 Reasons and Observations in Support of Naturism (Nudism) by K. Bacher found on the Naturist Society web site
  • The Not Milk web site has a lot of information about the dangers of corporate lobbying and the advertising of unhealthy products, and be sure to check out the real Got Milk? infographic on my quote page
  • In addition to Stop Puppymills.org, check out the work of Bill Smith who campaigns tirelessly to close puppy mills. Interestingly, some puppy mills are operated under the guise of organic farms these days, though that is being stopped through great public awareness campaigns.
  • You can read about even more corporate evils in The Great Bird Flu Hoax. Dr. Mercola can get a bird wordy on his sites, but the book is a fast read and has an excellent resources chapter pointing you to good places such as the Weston A. Price Foundation. Suffice to say, there will be no bird flu pandemic, and if there were, Tamiflu, the drug the US government spent $3 BILLION (!) stockpiling has been shown to be completely ineffective on bird flu, and reduces normal seasonal flu symptoms by only 24 hours when not accompanied by debilitating side effects, as reported in the New England Journal of Medicine and the Lancet. More recently, TIME magazine (3/23/09) reported news from the CDC that the strain of flu that Tamiflu was supposed to work on has mutated so that the drug is COMPLETELY ineffective. So that's $3 billion REALLY wasted. I strongly recommend lowering your processed food intake and encourage you to buy local meat and produce, perhaps at a farmers' market or Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) to discourage the evils of factory farming. The devastating health and environmental impact is staggering. The media is twisting the truth at best. Food and Water Watch seems to have a lot of good information. Be informed.
  • Considering pentawater or some other snake oil promising "water clusters"? This site debunks such pseudo-science hogwash. I was tempted to say "if you buy pentawater, you're an idiot," but I suppose there is value to the placebo effect. I just hate to see people being taken advantage of.
  • While we're talking about water, for a tongue in cheek look at the topic, why not check out the DHMO Organization
  • Think direct marketing of drugs to the public is a bad idea? How about drug companies flat out paying doctors to prescribe medicines? The New York Times lead cover story from 5/10/07 is here. When drug companies submit their products for testing so that the FDA can approve them for use, the positive studies are published and the negative ones are hidden, according to a study in the New England Journal of Medicine. Disgraceful.

  • I'm trying a natural cholesterol-lowering product from these guys
  • We got 100% recycled paper holiday cards from PSPrint at amazing prices.
  • In addition to buying locally grown food, you can also eat at restaurants that serve it! We had an amazing breakfast at The Farmers Diner while on vacation in VT.
  • 1000Bulbs has AMAZING prices on compact fluorescent bulbs, including full-spectrum
  • Catalog Choice is one centralized location to opt out of receiving all those catalogs that clog up your mailbox, if they're effective in their mission. Save some trees!
  • Visit this site and you can learn to be a C3, a Carbon Conscious Consumer. For instance, bring your own bags to the grocery store, don't buy bottled water (we use nice, reusable metal bottles from SIGG from ReusableBags.com), or trash your junk mail (above).
  • I'll admit it. I fell for the corporate-sponsored line that water fluoridation was good for you. Like most people, I never heard of the work of Dr. Phyllis Mullenix or Dr. George Wolbott, highly respected scientists publicly disgraced because their research showed the dangers of fluoride (Wolbott also did early research into the dangers of cigarettes and lead in gasoline). To get a little educated, check out this video with Christopher Bryson, author of "The Fluoride Deception," and visit the Fluoride Action Network.

companiesthatsuck- Once upon a time, there was a web site called CompaniesThatSuck.com, but it was unclear how any money could be made from it, despite copycats making millions from their IPOs prior to the internet bubble burst. Plus, folks just never seemed happy with their ability to vent and warn their neighbors. Therefore, the site is no more. But I'd still avoid the people and companies above.companiesthatsuck- Once upon a time, there was a web site called CompaniesThatSuck.com, but it was unclear how any money could be made from it, despite copycats making millions from their IPOs prior to the internet bubble burst.
